Effects Of Early Life Trauma on Adults’ Psychological Wellbeing

Abstract

AbstractChildhood trauma encompasses adverse experiences such as emotional abuse, neglect, physicalabuse, and exposure to violence, which can profoundly influence psychological well-being intoadulthood. This study investigates the effects of early life trauma on adult mental health, with afocus on identifying the most prevalent forms of trauma and their psychological consequences.Using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form (CTQ-SF), data was collected from 80participants aged 21 years and above. The findings reveal that emotional abuse (58.3%) andemotional neglect (30%) were the most commonly reported forms of trauma. The study alsohighlights the significant impact of these experiences on adult mental health, including symptomsof anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, and cognitive impairments. Furthermore,mindfulness-based strategies such as meditation and deep breathing were identified as effectivecoping mechanisms, promoting emotional resilience among respondents.This research underscores the critical importance of early identification and intervention tomitigate the lasting effects of childhood trauma. It calls for trauma-informed care approaches andcomprehensive training for mental health professionals to address the unique needs of affectedindividuals. Future research should focus on diverse populations, intergenerational impacts ofunresolved trauma, and the efficacy of trauma-focused therapeutic interventions to support longterm mental health outcomes.
